GAMEDAY

DAILY DUTIES
Check Arbiter for game assignments or crew changes.
Read 5 pages in your rule book, casebook, or mechanics manual every day, whether you have a game or not.
The best umpires never stop learning!

ONE DAY PRIOR TO YOUR GAME
Contact your partner(s).
Confirm your arrival time and meeting location.
Arrange to meet a minimum of 30 minutes prior
to the scheduled game start time.
Discuss which color uniform shirt or jacket you will all wear.
All umpires working together on a crew must wear
the same color top.
Clean your shoes.

THREE HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR GAME
The crew chief (plate umpire) must contact the Athletic Director of the home team's school to verify that the game will start on time. Then, communicate with your partner(s) any changes.
The list of ADs is on Arbiter.

30 TO 60 MINUTES BEFORE GAME TIME
Arrive at the field wearing business casual (collared shirt) attire.
Notify the home team manager that the umpires have arrived and confirm the game start time.
Conduct the pregame conference with your partner(s).
Dress in your game uniform.
Walk as a crew to the plate area 5 minutes prior
to the game start time.

5 MINUTES BEFORE GAME TIME
Call the managers to home plate for the plate conference.
The Plate Umpire stands at the point of the plate.
Base Umpire(s) stand in Fair Territory, opposite the Plate Umpire.
Introduce the crew to the managers.
Review the lineups, home team first. When lineups are reviewed and accepted, they become official.
Ensure players are legally and properly equipped.
Set expectations for sportsmanship and hustle.
Discuss and accept ground rules.
Communicate any unusual items (weather, darkness,
time limits, field issues, etc).
Begin the game.

AFTER THE GAME
Exit the field together with your partners.
Move quickly away from the field to your cars or meeting area.
Review and provide feedback on game situations
with your partners.
The Plate Umpire must complete a game report in Arbiter
for every game.
Notify Tommy Hall and Bryan Hall if any warnings or ejections were issued, and for ejections, complete the ejection form and send to Tommy and Bryan.
Wash your uniform.
